Alex Pritchard

Careers Leader/Pathway Manager

I'm Richard Watson. I'm the horticulture lead and Careers Leader at Tettenhall Wood School.

As part of my roles in school I've been able to marry both roles giving pupils at our school opportunities to gain work experience through horticulture, in house experience through our coffee shop, work-related learning tasks related to accreditation and qualifications and on the job work experience in their community.

All these experiences will give our pupils valuable skills that will help them stand out to employers and provide them with confidence in the future by showing themselves and others how they can contribute in the community and beyond.

Richard Watson

Careers Leader/Horticulture Lead

I come from a family of musicians and began the pursuit of a career as a musician and writer before I’d even left school. It’s a hard way to make a living, so I’ve supported myself (and now my family) in a number of fields over the years. I’ve worked at the Grand Theatre as a technician for two decades. For fifteen of those years, I’ve been the staff’s union rep. I buy and sell antiques and was for a short while operations manager for a drone-based aerial photography company. I also worked for three summers at a coal yard, servicing fuel for canal boats. I’m yet to find a practical application of that particular job in my role as a governor at Tettenhall Wood. Time, I’m sure, will tell.

I became a Parent Governor at Tettenhall Wood shortly before Covid 19 whipped the rails from beneath the nations train. As such, I’m still a stranger to the ‘normal’ running of a school. The processes, policies, procedures and oversight are no less fascinating for this fact. I sit on the school’s health and safety committee and am honoured to have been asked to take on the role of Link Governor for Careers.  I look forward to helping the wonderful pupils of Tettenhall Wood School find their path in the world, in any way I can.
