Swimming
About Swimming
At Tettenhall Wood we are lucky enough to have a hydrotherapy pool on site, which allows us to provide swimming every day for a different class throughout the school. The pupils learn in a variety of ways in the pool. Some lessons can be formal where the pupils follow the STA stages, and some lessons can be pupil led where the pupils are 1:1 and have the option of playing with toys or floats. This will help encourage independence, water confidence and communication skills. During the 1:1 session the pool will have calming lights on and calming music playing. When a pupil has achieved all stages of the STA award they will get a certificate. This states the skills they had to demonstrate in order to achieve the award. In the summer term we practise distance swimming. When a pupil has achieved this we give then a certificate and a badge to celebrate the achievement.
